The Defence Academy at Shrivenham in Oxfordshire is an educational establishment specialising in training courses for government departments and military operations.
As part of its training equipment and display exhibits are a number of aircraft and helicopters and associated aviation equipment that are rarely seen, so a tour around here is a sought after event.
Preserved outside the halls are a couple of aircraft, a Royal Air Force Harrier and an Army Air Corps Scout helicopter.
Inside the halls and workshops are the other exhibits, including the rare (in Europe at least) United States Army AH-1 Cobra and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters.
Our visit around here in 2007 allowed us to photograph freely all the interesting exhibits, and have our questions answered fully by our hosts. Needless to say that our group were very happy with this rare access and we acknowledge and thank our hosts for freely giving up their time.
Aircraft noted on our visit were:-
Harrier GR3 XV744 stored outside
Scout AH1 XV122 preserved outside
AH-1F 69-16445 on display inside
OH-58C 70-15154 on display inside
Scout AH1 XT621 on display inside
Harrier GR3 XW919 on display inside
